It also includes setting goals for the future growth of the organization, assessing the resources available, and making adjustments to ensure the organization is well-positioned to meet its objectives.
The goal of strategic planning is to align resources and activities with the organization’s mission, objectives, and strategies, so that the organization can be more effective. In order to do this, the organization must reassess and refine its plans and strategies on a regular basis. This process of continuous feedback is often referred to as tactical planning.
For example, an organization that provides after-school programs for underprivileged youth may use strategic planning to create a long-term plan to increase the number of students attending the program and improve the quality of services provided. In order to do this, they may first analyze the current state of the organization and its resources, identify the desired objectives and goals, develop strategies to meet these objectives, and create an action plan. Part of the action plan could include setting aside resources for advertising, hiring additional staff, or investing in new equipment. As the organization moves forward, they should continue to assess their progress and adjust their plans as needed.
